Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was an exceptional child. But for a young Irish girl with talented parents as well as her extended family, this was a naturally occurring trait. Maureen entered this loving haven located in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th, 1920. She was the daughter of Marguerita Lililburn FitzSimons a skilled contralto. Charles FitzSimons owned the Shamrock Rovers soccer club in Ireland and ran an Dublin business. Maureen was the second of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen excelled at sports and was a lover of rough play. Her passion for sports was matched by an equally natural talent of performing. She was the recipient of nearly all Feis prizes for her own country's theater and drama is a testimony to the fact that she was a natural performer. When she turned 14, she was accepted by the Abbey Theater accepted her and allowed her to live out her dreams of classical and opera.
