Her achievements as a young performer in America (or the name we use to refer to Maureen O'Hara today) would certainly put her in the "child prodigy" category. That was not unexpected as a girl of Irish descent, who grew in a family with a talent. Maureen entered this hospitable sanctuary on the 17th of August 1920 located in Ranelagh (a suburb of Dublin), Ireland. Marguerita FitzSimons' mother was a contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based company and was the owner of a portion in "The Shamrock Rovers" famous Irish soccer squad. Maureen was the second child of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was a star athlete and was a lover of rough play. Her passion for sports was matched by an equally natural aptitude to perform. The fact that she was awarded nearly every Feis awards for her native nation's theatre and drama proved the fact that she was a natural performer. By age 14 she was admitted to the highly acclaimed Abbey Theater and pursued her dreams of classical theater along with operatic music.
