Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was a child prodigy. It was no surprise given that she was a woman from Irish descent, who grew up in a gifted family. Maureen made her entrance into this caring haven on August 17, 1920, in Ranelagh (a suburb within Dublin), Ireland. The mother of Maureen, Marguerita Lilburn FitzSimons, was a talented contralto. Charles FitzSimons owned the Shamrock Rovers soccer team in Ireland. He also owned a Dublin business. Maureen FitzSimons first FitzSimons children. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara made up this family. Maureen was a natural athlete and was a fan of tough sporting games. The combination of this passion and her gift to perform was impressive. She took home almost every Feis Award for Theatre and Drama which her nation had to offer. When she turned 14, she was admitted into the world-renowned Abbey Theater and pursued her dreams of classical theater and operatic singing.
